Why Do I Use Evernote over Word and Scrivener?

I like Evernote.

I like it more than Word or Scrivener. I’ve been using it since 2012!

Why? Well…

  • Evernote is free. There are paid tiers of the program, but the base program is free. That gets a vote from me.
  • The program is pretty flexible. I can drop in audio recordings, PDF files, pictures etc into any note.
  • I like the internal navigation system. Word lets you open…a document. In Evernote, you can organize all your notes using tags and journals. Then, you can hop to different notes within the program. Or, you can just open specific notes up in a separate window like me, and test its performance capabilities. Instead of having one huge document or a few huge documents, I can have 100 little ones I can sort through and see whenever I want.
  • Evernote syncs to the cloud, so I always have a backup of my notes. Admittedly Word has this nowadays with built in OneDrive syncing.

That’s really it. Oh, and I already spent like 8 years using Evernote so migrating to a new program with all my notes would be a pain. And yes, I tried OneNote. Decent program, but not faster or better than Evernote in my opinion.
